#1 – Fun is number 1!

If you’re not having fun, stop. Even in the training. You need to make sure that even through the work, the want, the will, the fight, you are having fun.

#2 – Just be you.

Remember why you climb. You’re doing this for you. No one else. When you’re up there on the sharp end and seconds seem like hours. When you are outside, just to be outside. Climb because you want to and not because you’re trying to be someone or something else. Do what you want and love doing it.

#3 – Safety third.

We know that it’s always in the forefront of our minds. So keep it there. Don’t let it be the first thing and get in the way of having fun, trying hard, and sending. But always keep it in your top 3. Your top 3 are all equals. They’re just ordered this way.

#4 – Always want more.

Don’t stop – ever!

#5 – Don’t die.

Don’t. Die. It’s just bad for everyone.

#6 – Is for the chicks.

No, you macho idiot. You’re not doing this to impress chicks. Remember #2? C’mon – listen. Number 6 is to recognize women. They crush. If you’re a dude, learn something. If you’re a girl, keep doing it your way. Grace on stone is unparalleled.

#7 – For the send!

It’s never a matter of IF. It’s a matter of WHEN. “C’mon!” “You got this!” “Allez!” Love and appreciate your closest mates cheering for you and giving you confidence. But, you’ll send when you want to – on your terms. If that time is now, get it. If hesitation and other voices are heard louder than your own, now is not the time. You can do it. You will do it.

#8 – Lock the gate.

Check your shit. Be a good belayer. Be a good climber. Don’t kill someone or yourself just because you forgot to check before you left the deck.

#9 – Drink wine.

Drink wine. Drink beer. Drink booze. Don’t drink anything – but celebrate. Celebrate life and celebrate the time with your partner and friends. But overall, celebrate the fact that you’re climbing.

#10 – Do it again.
